It seems Coronavirus has taken another one. The SXSW Festival has just announced that they are canceling the convention. SXSW is a major event hosting everything from tech, to music, to films. The Austin based festival officially canceled their annual event for the first time in 34 years, as they shared on Twitter. Some conventions have issued statements that they are going forward. NAB, The Photography Show and Photokina have all said that they intend to continue with the shows as planned....

It’s the debate that just won’t go away. Whether photography or cinema, film vs digital is a constant source of both controversy and amusement. Macro is always a popular photography subject. Even if it’s not something you shoot all the time, it’s something that pretty much all of us will have a go at given the chance. But macro lenses are expensive, so it’s not something that a lot of people will try, even if they want to. There are less expensive options out there, though, especially if you own a 3D printer. We’ve featured photographer Nick Sherlock and his 3D printed extension tubes and macro accessories before, but this pair of extension tubes is particularly interesting....

In February this year, ESA and NASA launched Solar Orbiter to study the Sun from up close. The probe has returned the first images, and they are the closest photos of the Sun that have ever been taken. They reveal miniature solar flares or “campfires,” a phenomenon that has never been observable in detail before. Solar Orbiter features six remote-sensing instruments (telescopes) that observe the Sun and its surroundings. “The campfires shown in the first image set were captured by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) from Solar Orbiter’s first perihelion,” ESA explains....
