French underwater photographer and biologist Laurent Ballesta was announced as this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year for his enigmatic image, Creation, that captures camouflage groupers exiting their milky cloud of eggs and sperm in Fakarava, French Polynesia. Selected from more than 50,000 entries from 95 countries, the winners of the prestigious Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition were revealed at an online awards ceremony. A winning image takes great dedication, and every year, for five years, Laurent and his team returned to the same lagoon....

Facebook Inc. has recently been sued for allegedly spying on Instagram users through their phone cameras. According to some reports, Instagram was accessing people’s cameras even when they weren’t actively using the app. According to Bloomberg, the whole fuss began when some reports appeared in July claiming that Instagram was accessing iPhone cameras even when people didn’t use the app. Facebook blamed it on the bug and claimed that they were working on fixing it....

At Facebook’s F8 developer conference, the company has announced some exciting news: Facebook and RED are teaming up to develop a high-end, professional VR camera system. It will reportedly be able to capture hi-res imagery in so-called 6DoF (six degrees of freedom). The viewers will be able to explore the high-quality content in real time within virtual reality. As The Verge writes, this upcoming VR rig is the “culmination of Facebook’s internal efforts on its Surround 360 platform....

What is Figure Ground Relationship? Figure Ground Relationship is the relationship of the subject you wish the viewer to focus on and how it relates to the background / foreground. Most people refer to this as a “Silhouette” however it goes much deeper than this. Instead of thinking “This shot works because there’s a silhouette in it”, I would like to push forward the idea that by using FGR we can allow the thought process of “This shot works because we can clearly see the subject’s outline”....

Sure, Sony has had a go in the past with strange handle contraptions and finally adding a microphone socket to last year’s RX100 VII.
