Here is something interesting that is coming from this year’s photokina. Fuji just announced the GFX 50S. It is a medium format camera with a sensor that is 70% larger than a full frame DSLR. The sensor for this new camera is a G Format 43.8 x 32.9mm sensor, and it will shoot in the following aspect ratios: 4:3 (default), 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, 6:7 and 6:17, which were available in large and medium format film cameras....

Digital cameras are notoriously difficult to design and get right. Where do you start? Who is the customer? What features do you include on the camera? There are uncountable ways to approach a camera development and design programme. For example, you can create a spreadsheet listing current and near-future ‘must-have’ specifications and cross them out one-by-one to please the techno-consumer. Or you can specialise and excel in specific areas—a more difficult proposition altogether....
