After a 600-Watt light from Aputure and a 700 Watt from Maxima, Nanlight is introducing a 1200 Watt beast – the Evoke 1200 LED Spot Light. And it truly is a beast. Under the square body lies a 1200 Watt COB LED. It will offer either daylight (6500K) or tungsten (To be announced) flavors. While you probably want the light to be Bi-color, you have to remember that with Bicolor lights each of the temperatures gets half the surface....
GorillaPod has a new member of their family of flexible tripods. JOBY has announced GorillaPod Mobile Rig, aimed particularly at smartphone filmmakers. Panasonic announced a small handful of firmware updates a couple of weeks ago for the Panasonic G9, GH5, GH5S, S1 and S1R mirrorless cameras. The biggest changes were noted for the Panasonic G9, which gives it pretty much all of the video capabilities of the somewhat legendary GH5. Now, those firmware updates have been released, but Panasonic has added updates for a few more cameras to the list, too. The updates add new features, new compatibility, and bug fixes for various models of full-frame and Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras, as well as some of Panasonic’s compact cameras....
As artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to develop, so too does the ability to create realistic images with the help of AI. I have been spending some time testing out how good this new technology really is, trying to figure out who has the creative control, how I feel about being removed from the process, and how as a photographer, I can take advantage of this new tech while sitting in my living room in the middle of North Yorkshire....
The ‘Learning by doing’ philosophy first emerged back in the 1930s and is a valid paradigm. In photography, this probably means ‘Learning by mistaking.’ I see daily articles with titles like “four mistakes landscape photographers should avoid”, or “avoid these mistakes to become a better photographer“. As a teacher, I think that this approach is 100% wrong. Actually, quite the opposite; I would advise photographers to make as many mistakes as they possibly can....
