The eighth annual Nature inFocus Photography Awards have announced the winners for the year 2022. With more submissions every year, the judges had a difficult task choosing the winning images. But hey, it has to be done – and we bring you the best of the best for 2022. And just like last year, you’ll see the colors, beauty, and drama of the natural world around us. This year’s contest received around 21,000 images from more than 2,300 photographers from all over the world....

Expert Imaging and Sound Association Awards (EISA) has announced its selection of the best photo gear of 2019. Nikon Z 6 was proclaimed the Camera of the Year, but there are a few more awarded cameras in other categories – all of them mirrorless. EISA has been around since 1982. At the time, the editors-in-chief from five European photo magazines came together to select “The Camera of the Year.” In 1989, another 10 photo magazines had joined the group, and the association has grown ever since....

When it comes to shooting photos or video on drones, it quickly becomes apparent that filters are key to getting the best footage. And the first name that springs to mind for drone filters is PolarPro. They’ve pretty much been the leading company for drone camera filters since they started taking to the air. Novoflex have just announced some new ClassicBall ball heads and they look pretty interesting. Why are they interesting to me? Well, they’re reversible. This means that you don’t have to shots that go off-level when you pan. Great for video and landscape shooters. The new ClassicBall comes in three sizes for different load capacities. They have a tension adjuster, as well as a greaseless design, which should make maintenance a doddle....

Advertisements Consider these two pictures: The first one I shot specifically to test a camera-clubby sort of online forum’s reactions. As predicted, they liked it pretty well (of course there were quibbles). I hate it. It is a stupid picture which, as presented here at any rate, signifies nothing. It “says” nothing about anything, it evokes nothing. There’s no story, there’s no context, there’s no particular feelings it might generate. It’s just a sort of vaguely pretty picture with some strong compositional elements....
